It’s a honey trap, you go to see the buyer and he is dead friendly. You have a cup of coffee, two biscuits, maybe even three. Your discussion ranges over the way things are in the industry, how his company is doing and the big golf tournament.
Then you ask him for an order and he says, ‘I can’t give you one at the moment, but we really like your product and as soon as we have (insert any one of a hundred possible excuses) out of the way, we will be buying.’

Developing an understanding of the specific ways in which Generations X and Y view the world will provide your organization with valuable insight into how to attract, sustain and motivate the younger generations. When you speak their language and they understand your language, the stage is set for better communication, increased productivity and increased profitability. I was reminded of this when one of my client’s commented, “Why do my younger employees keep talking about this whole ‘balance’ thing, when there’s work to be done?”
There are a couple of important things to consider here.

The quickest way to kill the human spirit is to ask someone to do mediocre work”
-Ayn Rand.
There is one vital ingredient that prevents mediocre work: Accountability. Accountability is the common thread which is woven throughout all professions and is especially important in today’s business world.
Websters defines accountability as: The quality or state of being accountable; especially : an obligation or willingness to accept responsibility or to account for one’s actions. This definition promotes a negative view of accountability and is based on something created for someone else. It fuels the blaming mentality so prevalent in today’s management.

There is an old english saying that we can “know the price of everything, but the value of nothing” and in our all-consuming, “I want it now”, society this saying still has great relevance. When I walk around the supermarket I am bombarded with the offers “half-price”, “buy one get one free” otherwise known as “BOGOF”, “30% extra” and so on, but what does this actually mean to me, the consumer?

Your department is exactly what you expected.
It has performed to every level that you have asked it to.
There are no surprises in the outcome, because you have already put in place all the factors for the result.
You.
I’m speaking to the person in charge. That would be you.
Not happy with the way your reps are talking to customers?
Who hired them? Trained them? Placed them in the department? It’s not as if the person wandered in off the street and suddenly they started working there.
